Frequently asked questions

Is TSCBF a registered charity?
Yes. The Taylor Statten Camping Bursary Fund is a registered Canadian charity (CRA BN 886254705RR0001). We issue official tax receipts for all eligible donations.
Who is eligible for a bursary?
New applicants must be at least 11 years old (and under 16 at time of first application), demonstrate financial need, and show leadership qualities. The camp must be an accredited member of the OCA or CCA and willing to participate in our cost-sharing arrangement.
How do I get an application form?
Contact the camp you wish your child to attend and request a Bursary Fund Grant Application Form. If the camp is not among our current partners, contact us to discuss the process for new camps.
What is the application deadline?
Applications must be submitted by February 28th. Incomplete applications cannot be considered, so please ensure all required documentation is included before submitting.
When will I hear back about my application?
We acknowledge receipt of applications by the first week of March. The Selection Committee meets in March, and all families are contacted with a decision by the end of April.
What does the grant cover?
Our aim is to cover basic camp fees for one month. All for-profit partner camps offer a reduced fee for bursary recipients (typically ~30%). Parents remain responsible for taxes, transportation, tuck, special equipment, and any fees beyond the standard one-month session.
How much will my family owe to the camp?

It depends on the camp fee and your grant amount. Here is a typical example, using a camp with a regular monthly fee of $6,000:

Total camp fee: $6,780 (includes 13% HST of $780)
Camp discount (30% of $6,000)− $1,800
Bursary Fund grant− $3,950
HST (paid by family)    $780
Family contribution$1,030

The Bursary Fund forwards its grant directly to the camp on the family’s behalf. The family pays the balance—in this example, $1,030 ($250 family contribution + $780 HST)—directly to the camp.

Families are also responsible for transportation, tuck, special equipment, trip fees, and any fees beyond the standard one-month session.

What documentation do I need to submit?

New applicants must submit: the completed application form, two letters of reference (not from relatives), and income documentation for both parents or guardians.

Returning recipients do not need to resubmit reference letters — income documentation (recent tax returns or T4 slips for both parents/guardians) is sufficient.

Do returning recipients need to reapply each year?
Yes. A new application with current income documentation must be submitted each year. Reference letters are not required for returning recipients. Eligibility is reviewed annually.
Can I apply for a two-week session instead of a full month?
Yes. Applications for two-week sessions are considered, and the grant is calculated based on the reduced two-week camp fee. The same three-way cost-sharing model applies.
Where do I send my family contribution and other fees?
All payments — including your family contribution, taxes, and any additional camp fees — are paid directly to the camp. The Bursary Fund forwards its grant directly to the camp on your behalf. Family contributions must be paid before camp begins.
How is my financial information protected?
All financial information is kept strictly confidential and is secured both electronically and in physical form. Records are retained for two years and then permanently destroyed.
Can I apply for multiple children?
Yes. Please complete a separate application form with the required documentation for each child.
Will the bursary continue for multiple years?
Yes. Once accepted, we commit to supporting each camper for the duration of their camping career, as long as they continue to meet eligibility requirements and benefit from the camp experience. This can be up to five consecutive summers.
My camp is not on your partner list. Can I still apply?
We support any camp that is an accredited member of the Ontario Camping Association or the Canadian Camping Association and is willing to contribute by offering a satisfactory fee reduction. Please ask the camp to contact us to discuss how the bursary process works.
How can I volunteer or get involved?
We always need help—whether it’s a particular skill, organizing an event, or spreading the word. Get in touch and we’re confident we’ll say yes.
