ABOUT US
The Taylor Statten Camping Bursary Fund was established in 1972 by the staff and alumni of camps Ahmek and Wapomeo with the belief that summer camp can be a formative experience in a child’s life. Camp builds self-confidence, encourages teamwork, develops leadership, and fosters an appreciation of nature. The Bursary Fund provides an opportunity for these experiences for deserving campers by helping to bridge the gap between camp fees and a family contribution.
In our 50+ years of service, the Bursary has funded over 1800 camping summers and looks forward to funding many more in the years to come. The Bursary works closely with our partner camps (in Alberta, BC, Ontario, and Quebec) and through that collaboration have come to realize the importance the camp experience has in fostering young people that are more responsible, more empathic, and more motivated.
Campers who:
The Bursary Fund is growing and not simply through supporting an increasing number of deserving campers. We are also enhancing our existing camping community by infusing it with campers from varied backgrounds who bring their diverse experiences and interests with them. This is enhancing the camping community by changing the demographics of our camps where new opportunities and connections can be fostered. This will further support populations outside of camp, with our campers bringing the skills back to their individual home communities, helping to create the leaders of tomorrow and fostering stronger communities today.
