During this summer, the awesome staff at Camp Ahmek & Wapomeo held an auction to raise money for the Bursary Fund. This annual event is a fantastic contribution from a group that really appreciate the camping experience and want to help others go to camp.

A total of $10,665 was raised and will be used to send kids to summer camps in Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta in the summer of 2016.

I wanted to extend an invitation to  our 5th annual art show (see the attachment for more details). The show features over 25 Canadian artists and will feature paintings, sculptures, paddles and more. This year we have moved the show to the Storys Building (http://storysbuilding.com/) at 11 Duncan St. (King and University). The new venue is more intimate but will still allow us to show more than 120 pieces of art. Storys is also much easier to get for those that work downtown.  We hope to see many of you that have not been able to attend in years past.

In addition to the wonderful art on display there will be an open bar, food, and musical entertainment from Bellosound.

This year we are also partnering with the Quetico Foundation, whose mission is dedicated to the protection of wilderness, with a particular focus on Quetico Wilderness Provincial Park. Our vision is to be recognized as an influential and credible leader in the protection of wilderness values and ecological integrity. The Taylor Statten Camping Bursary Fund was established in 1972 and during that time we have sent over 1000 children to 8 different summer camps in Ontario, Alberta and Quebec. The life skills learned and experiences earned from summers at camp are pivotal in shaping healthy futures for the young people we help each year. This summer alone, we were able to provide great experiences to 30 campers.  

Every summer, on the Saturday of the Labour Day weekend, the Bursary Fund Auction is held at Camp Ahmek on Canoe Lake. Beginning at 4:30 p.m. on the main beach in front of the Ahmek Dining Hall, a wide array of fun and exciting items are auctioned, with all the proceeds going towards the Bursary Fund. The 2014 Labour Day Auction was another success. Highly sought-after prizes fought over by the crowd have included everything from a weekend retreat in Vermont to a pair of bookshelves constructed from the hull of a canoe. Thank you once again to all who have donated or secured items for the auction – keep up the great work, items are always welcome.
